About Us

Strong Black Woman. For generations, it’s been taught to women and girls as a cultural mantra. A badge of honor. A mechanism of self-defense. It has perpetuated the belief that women and girls have an obligation to be strong, to suppress their emotions, to resist being vulnerable or dependent, to succeed despite limited resources, and to serve as a caregiver. And that asking for help is a sign of weakness.

Girl, Get Up is here to change this. We believe strength is found not in isolation, but in collective openness and shared vulnerability. We believe our sisters deserve access to the mental health services they need to navigate challenging life situations, emotional upsets and cultural pressures. And we know we must uphold each other and provide the daily affirmations we need to be at peace with ourselves.

That’s why we created services that help women and girls access the therapy, self-care and support services they need to manage conditions such as anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), postpartum depression and suicide ideation. In doing so, we help them connect their mental health to a greater state of hope, healing and happiness in their lives.
